The Benefits of Psycho-educational Assessments
Provides clarity and direction
Accurate identification of learning disabilities, attention difficulties, or other learning differences offers a clear understanding of your child's cognitive strengths and challenges, and helps uncover the root causes of academic or emotional struggles.
Enables targeted support
Delivers specific recommendations for accommodations, teaching strategies, and interventions tailored to your child's learning profile.
Informs individualized planning
Supports the development of an IEP or other formal education plan that addresses your child's specific needs within the school system.
Builds self-understanding
Helps children and teens understand their own learning style, fostering self-advocacy skills and reducing feelings of frustration or inadequacy.
Supports long-term success
Accurate assessment and appropriate support improve both academic outcomes and social-emotional well-being over time.
What to Expect
The assessment typically takes place over 2-3 sessions and is tailored to your child's needs. This includes one parent interview session and approximately six hours of direct assessment with your child or teen.
Thinking and Learning Skills
Activities that look at how your child thinks, remembers information, solves problems, and stays organized.
Reading, Writing, and Math
Evaluation of academic skills to identify specific learning challenges like dyslexia (reading difficulties), dysgraphia (writing difficulties), and dyscalculia (math difficulties).
Emotional and Behavioral Factors
Questionnaires and conversations to understand how feelings like anxiety or frustration, and behaviors at school, may be affecting your child's learning.
